Serve Locally
Our vision as a church is to reach out and impact Arlington and DC with the message of Jesus Christ. We want to be consistently aware of the people, circumstances, and needs around us while being loving and innovative in our thoughts and actions towards the people in our community. At Frontline Arlington we have ongoing opportunities, one-time events, and resources to help you and your small group engage in serving. Check out the options below, and be sure to check the Upcoming Events page for upcoming outreach events.
Ongoing Opportunities
Covenant House Bible Studies: Covenant House is a national non-profit organization with an office in Southeast DC that serves to help the homeless youth in our city. Covenant House has a “Crisis Center” which is the first stop for these youth as they are rescued from living on the streets. Frontline Arlington has been grateful to have begun a strong relationship with this organization. We currently have monthly bible studies at the Covenant House one Sunday evening a month. We also have other events throughout the year. If you or your small group (this is great for small groups) wish to get more involved in these studies or events, please visit the website at www.covenanthousebiblestudies.blogspot.com or contact Holley at holley.slabaugh@gmail.com with any questions and to get the updated schedule.
DayBreak: This is an inner city ministry serving the community of Lincoln Heights in northeast Washington, DC. Their vision is to transform families by equipping and empowering individuals to live as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. DayBreak does this by developing fully functioning inner city children and youth through Christian outreach, discipleship and education. You can read more about Daybreak and their vision by going to www.daybreakkids.org. To see their current volunteer opportunities please visit www.daybreakkids.org/volunteer.
Pretty & Polished: Pretty & Polished is a volunteer organization that visits the residents of local nursing homes to share God’s love. Volunteers perform simple manicures, play games, and engage residents in conversation in order to share with them the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ and demonstrate that they are beautiful and treasured. This is an ongoing ministry that occurs on the second Saturday of each month. Information on upcoming events is available at www.prettyandpolished.com <http://www.prettyandpolished.com> or you can email Nina at prettyandpolished@mcleanbible.net.
One-Time Events
DC Schools Project: Last year over 500 volunteers from McLean Bible Church and Frontline served alongside community volunteers, teachers and students at over 50 public schools across Washington, DC. Each fall before school starts, volunteers from all over DC go to public schools to do yard work, organize classrooms, sort through library books and paint. If you are interested in participating with Frontline Arlington in this service event in 2011, please email Enoch at enoch.haven@mcleanbible.org.
Turkey Outreach: The Mission of Turkey Outreach is to distribute Thanksgiving dinners in order to foster ongoing, Gospel-centered relationships with local families in need. In November 2010, the McLean Bible Church community delivered over 7000 boxes to local families and organizations. Thank you so much for your donations of time and finances! You can find out more about this yearly event by visiting www.turkeyoutreach.com or stay tuned for more information on this event in 2011.
Angel Tree: Angel Tree is a ministry of Frontline and Mclean Bible Church that provides an avenue to share the love of Christ with under-privileged children and adults during the Christmas season. Every year we partner with several organizations to give over 3000 gifts to the under-privileged throughout the DC metro area. This year Frontline Arlington is partnering with Little Lights, Covenant House, and our Pretty & Polished ministry to give donated gifts. If you would like to help with this event please don’t forget to pick up a gift tag at our Monday service or contact Enoch at enoch.haven@mcleanbible.org with any questions.
